I appreciate that each individual’s body and lived experience is unique. I take an approach to treatment that is investigative and exploratory, treating each area of the body in the context of the whole and encouraging movement. I am committed to providing a non-judgmental and safe space for all bodies and neurotypes.
Massage style
My approach is often different from one treatment to the next, in response to the needs of each unique body, as well as each person’s preferences. Generally, I take an approach that is exploratory, moving the tissues with jostling and vibrations to pinpoint areas of restriction. I like to use a combination of picking up, lengthy holds, torsions, and fine movements to help the body find the ways it wants to move. While my hands are almost always moving, the net effect on the nervous system is relaxing.
I frequently treat through the sheets, and without or with minimal oil. While I am happy to provide a relaxation-style massage which incorporates Swedish techniques, for the most part I like to approach the body area-by-area, and address complaints in relation to the nearby structures. I like to treat in the medium-firm range of pressure, with adjustments for specific areas and points.
I tend to be quiet during treatments as I focus on tinkering and communicating with the body, but I am also enthusiastic about discussing areas and tissues being addressed, as well as the principles and rationale that underlies my treatment.
